Comment on "Experimental Study of the Elastic Properties of a Percolating System"

Résumé

In a recent Letter, Benguigui reported simultaneous measurements of the conductivity and the elasticity exponents of two-dimensional metallic sheets with cir' cular holes punched at random on the sites of a square lattice (mesh size a). "The diameter of the circular holes, equal to the cell of the lattice," was such that the presence of two holes on nearest-neighbor sites cuts the bond between these sites on the lattice. This is different from the procedure used in the classical "table top" experiment of Last and Thouless,2 punching holes on a square lattice, drawn on graphite paper, with a diameter slightly larger than a sqrt(2), and such that two holes placed on the diagonal of a unit square cut the next-nearest-neighbor bond between the sites involved....
