Atmospheric CO2 retrievals from GOSAT TANSO-FTS data and status on related French activities
Résumé
We have made progress in the retrieval of the CO2 column average mixing ration XCO2 from TANSO-FTS
spectra in the TIR band (B4). Inversion of the sea surface temperature and XCO2 have been performed
systematically over the Arctic Ocean for the months of July, August and September to check how GOSAT (and
GOSAT-2 in the next future) could contribute to climate change studies in areas where the effects are expected to
be significant over the lifetime of a satellite experiment as GOSAT. The period analyzed is covering 6 years from
2010 to 2015. Results will be presented as monthly means over 2° latitude bins between 68N and 82N in the
major basins of the Arctic Ocean. They will be compared with the NIES L2 product for CO2 and to Eumetsat
IASI products for the SST. A status of the other activities within this RA project involving IPSL, LATMOS and
NOVELTIS will be presented.
