Developmental constraints on the evolution and acquisition of sensorimotor and social skills

Pierre-Yves Oudeyer

Résumé

This document presents an overview of my scientific and technological activities so far. It is organized in two parts. The first part synthesizes all the aspects of my scientific career. Section 1 presents my curriculum vitae. Section 2 provides explanations of my scientific trajectory, showing the evolution and the relationship between the various topics I have studied. Section 3 summarizes five selected major contributions that I have achieved so far, in terms of scientific results, collective responsibilities, and societal implication. Section 4 outlines the essential structure and content of the research program I am right now engaged in and achieving with my research team INRIA Flowers. Section 5 gives an exhaustive list of my academic and technological contributions. Section 6 is the external bibliography. In Part II, I present my vision of what I think is a major challenge of developmental robotics, and at the same times occupies centrally my current thinking: Together with intrinsic motivation, which and how developmental constraints can allow a robot to acquire continuously novel skills through life-long learning in the unbounded high-dimensional real world?
