Foam in a two-dimensional Couette shear: a local measurement of bubble deformation.
Résumé
We re-analyse experiments of a two-dimensional foam sheared in Couette geometry [Debrégeas {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 87}, 178305 (2001)]. We characterise the bubble deformation by a texture tensor. Our measurements are local in time: they evidence thedistinction between a transient regime and a permanent one, where we have access to both the average and fluctuations of the anisotropy. Moreover, the measurements are local in space and show that the deformation is not localised, varying smoothly across the shear gap.
