Flambement d'une chaîne d'aimants permanents dans un champ magnétique extérieur

Abstract : Above a certain number of magnets, a vertical clamped-free chain buckles under its own weight. This instabiliy can be countered by an external magnetic field. To investigate the effect of an external magnetic field on the chain stability, the dynamics of the chain is modelized using a Lagrangian approach, accounting the magnetic interaction between the cylinders, gravity and the external magnetic field. Eigenfrequencies are determined for diffrents magnetic field magnitudes and are compared to experiments. By analyzing the results, the influence of magnetic fields on the self-buckling chain is finally identified.
